Just got this email about Storyland from their director, Barry Falke, and thought I’d pass it along:
Within the last week, there has been a tremendous amount of media coverage around the Storyland Inn closing its doors. While the only thing Rotary Storyland and the Inn have in common is a name, it has proven to be fairly confusing to the public. It wasn’t but a few years ago that Rotary Storyland and Playland were on the brink of closing down, and the recent news has had many people asking questions. We are fully aware that all media outlets covering the story have been mindful of the separation, and have worked hard to specifically mention that the two entities are not connected. However, a large number of people read only the headlines, they hear about poor conditions and Storyland in the same tag-line and simply assume that it is us! We receive a high volume of calls daily related specifically to our status, and how much longer we think we will be open.
The 2009 Season thus far has been strong for Rotary Storyland and Playland. We have worked very hard over the last few years to restore the faith and trust of the public, and this unfortunate situation has called that into question. We are open all week for Spring Break, we have an EGGstravagaza Event this Saturday, a Multicultural Literacy Fair in May, as well as a Literacy Summer Camp in July. All of our events are either free to the public, or offered at a very nominal cost, in an effort to stay consistent with our Mission of “providing affordable entertainment to children and families throughout the Central Valley.”Thank you to all of those who have continued to support us, through the bad times and into the good! Rotary Storyland is not closing its doors, we do not issues with rodents, and we are not putting people out onto the streets! If it is possible, please let people know that after 54 years, we aren’t going anywhere!Thank you so much for your time,
