Local Doulas

A doula is a birth assistant…”a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.” (From DONA International) They can help in both hospital and homebirths.
Below are local doulas that are available to help local moms (and they are usually amazing support for dads as well!) with their births. A doula is NOT a midwife and does NOT deliver babies. You will need a doctor or midwife for the actual delivery.

I am just getting started as a doula. I have had two children, one in the hospital and one at home. I love being a mom, and I love babies. I am excited about being a doula because I have experienced how much it helps mom. I am also very excited about supporting fathers and other family members at this precious time. I am learning so much about the power and beauty of birth. I would love to consult with you and see if I am a good match for your family, to assist you in your birth. Give me a call at 283-5903 or email to pamelasummer63@yahoo.com and lets talk about your birth! Or visit my website at www.Centralvalleydoula.com

I am a childbirth educator/mentor (Birthing From Within), a birth doula, a postpartum doula and lactation counselor. I consider myself to be on the Welcoming Committee for these new souls coming to our world. I am a responsible, nurturing, attentive woman focused on helping families navigate the labyrinthine journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum “fourth trimester.” The more I study child development, the more I become aware of the importance of the perinatal period (pregnancy, birth, and postpartum). This precious time lays the foundation for trust and connection that can affect each of us throughout our life. My goal is to help families gently integrate and celebrate their newest additions into the family, and I see the work of the childbirth mentor/doula as the perfect arena to support families. I truly believe in women’s instincts and the ability of families to make healthy decisions when they are supported and feel safe. I choose to work with families in the perinatal period because it is an area where I can use the best of my skills: empathic listening, honest communication, compassion, and nurturing caregiving. As a birth doula and childbirth educator, my job is to help a woman and her partner achieve the birth they want and to support the couple’s wishes and goals.  While your doula, I promise I will not let you suffer, I will always tell the truth, and nothing you can say or do in labor will disappoint me or hurt my feelings. As a person who has given birth myself, I believe it is one of the most awesome events God has especially created for women.  Education and continuous support are the keys to achieving a natural birthing experience.  Please feel free to contact me via phone 559-579-1252 or e-mail (doulasantos@yahoo.com).  My services are available for women in Fresno and surrounding cities.
