Holidays

Central Valley Holiday Lights

So everyone knows about Christmas Tree Lane…and most know about Huntington Blvd’s holiday lights as well…but did you know about Cindy Ln? If not, you HAVE to check it out! Read on for more info…

And what about the houses that sync their lights to music? Nope, I hadn’t heard of the sync’d lights myself til just last night! We don’t regularly read the Bee, so we apparently have missed the articles in recent years…a friend of mine I ran into for the first time in years at Target (of all places) last night, told me about the sync’d lights of our area. (Thanks Wendy!!! Great seeing you again!!)

I had heard about them on the net, but never had heard about local houses that did this! I’m really excited to check it out!

So here’s a list I’ve compiled from Google searches…have at it! And let me know if you know of any more! (Jump to the bottom to look at the map.)  And here’s a website I just discovered that also catalogs lights in the Valley! (Although at the writing of this, I already have all those houses on this page here. Some of them are part of some of the communities below, so I didn’t feel the need to specify specific houses.)

Synchronized lights/music:

  • 1150 E. Sierra Ave., Fresno (east of First Street)
  • 1189 Citadel Ave., Clovis, myclovischristmas.com. (near Nees and Willow)
  • 6047 N. Winchester Ave., Fresno (near Bullard and Maroa)
  • 4222 N. Maroa Ave., Fresno (near Ashlan and Maroa)
  • 4282 W. Dayton, Fresno (between Dakota/Shields, Blythe/Brawley)

Areas with lots of lights, to drive or walk:

  • Christmas Tree Lane: Located on Van Ness Blvd between Shields Ave and Shaw Ave. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday Van Ness is northbound only.
  • Huntington Boulevard: Between Cedar and First. From what I’m reading online, they’ve scaled down their lights lately but added candles! I’ll have to update this once we check it out.
  • Cindy Lane (AKA “Holiday Lane”): Wawona Estates near Peach and Alluvial…Enter at Cindy Lane and Alluvial (1 block west of Peach), or at Athens and Peach (right across Peach from Railroad Park). This neighborhood isn’t as organized as Christmas Tree Lane, but they are every bit as spectacular! Smaller homes, closer to the road, LOTS of lit up houses, going for several blocks square! And you can walk it any night, although there are not sidewalks. Our family goes here every year, and frankly, I enjoy it more than Christmas Tree Lane and Huntington Blvd! (Though I’ve not been to Huntington since they added the candles…will have to check it out soon and report back!)
  • Candy Cane Lane: In Clovis, bounded by Sunnyside, Stanford, Beverly and Purvis avenues

Clovis Children’s Electric Christmas Parade TONIGHT!

Come join us tonight at 6pm in Old Town Clovis for the annual Children’s Electric Christmas Parade! Our family will be there! Bundle up to keep warm!! :)

Have you been to Cindy Ave yet?

We discovered this street years ago and last night the kids and I went looking for it again…thought it needed to be shared with those that haven’t been there at Xmas time yet.

I would say it rivals Xmas tree lane and Huntington blvd w/Xmas lights! The difference is that the houses are much closer together and it just feels like more to me. Also lots of people walking, any day, people out front of houses giving out hot cocoa, Santa visits in one person’s garage (and a line waiting to visit him), and not tons and tons of cars. There’s plenty, sure, but you can
choose which way to go, you don’t have to just follow the traffic…there’s quite a few streets and culdesacs to detour at, and its just more homey and down-to-earth, in my mind. I love it!

To find Cindy ave, you would go west on Alluvial from Railroad Park at Peach and Alluvial, and you’ll see Cindy on the right, a block or 2 past the Peach. You can’t miss it. When you look down the street, its ALLLLLL lights! There are other ways into the neighborhood but I find this the easiest way to remember.

Anyhoo…hope others enjoy it as well! :)

Happy Halloween!

For a very enlightening article on “The Real Origins of Halloween” (and no, it has nothing to do with anything evil or satanic), check out the article by the same name! Its long but very well worth reading! I highly recommend it!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope everyone is enjoying their special family time!

Don’t forget to track Santa! It’s an exciting & fun family tradition!!! :)
